Editor’s Note, 01/2021: Making Things New

Figment team Shu Ying discovered her green thumb in 2020.

This month as we enter a new year, we are drawing excitement and inspiration from the creatives in our community. Here are some recent discoveries:

  • We loved reading this National Geographic article about three local creators and how they weave their personal heritage into their work: writer Jonathan Lim, mother-daughter chefs Zaithoon Ibrahim and Taahira Ayoob of Spice Zi Kitchen and Jeffrey Eng of Eng Tiang Huat.
  • The year started off with a wonderful surprise, when our collaborators Foreign Policy Design Group published their work on Figment’s visual identity and brand collaterals. Call us biased, but we think the work is phenomenal! Stay tuned for studio director Yah-Leng’s take on the project and their other heritage projects.
  • Singapore Art Week is coming up later this month and we can’t wait to see what everyone’s been up to. We’re especially excited for S.E.A. Focus, a constellation of online and in-person programmes put together presented by the Singapore Tyler Print Institute.
