Coliving is a modern version of shared living in which residents get a private bedroom in a fully-furnished home with shared common areas. Coliving spaces have become increasingly popular in major cities like Singapore as a means of affordable living for working professionals, digital nomads, and relocating individuals. Compared to traditional rentals, coliving is attractive to residents due to its affordability, flexibility, bundled amenities, as well as a much-needed sense of community.
Becoming a Figment member means joining a cosmopolitan community of working professionals, with diverse backgrounds in tech, finance, design, and other creative industries. Our members do anything from running their own consulting podcast to selling vegan ice-cream. Although most of our members are in their thirties, we also host many members in their forties, fifties or sixties! Rather than our biological age, what really matters are our shared values of cultural awareness, diversity and authenticity.
We hope you’ll get to know your fellow housemates as soon as you move in. After that, expect a standing invite to Figment experiences, like private dining events with local guest chefs, or book-binding classes hosted by independent creatives. Through these events, we hope you’ll get to know more Figment members from other homes.
The monthly rental for coliving spaces in Singapore starts from around $1,400. Keep in mind, the monthly price includes additionals that amount to an average savings of $330 per month compared to a typical rental.
Well, you get a fully-furnished suite that’s move-in ready! WiFi, utilities, and weekly cleaning of the common areas are all included. We’ll provide one complimentary set of bedding and towels, plus some basic household essentials to get you started. Of course, your rent includes use of shared laundry and cooking facilities, and the living and dining areas too. Not bad, huh?
Under the local Guidelines, coliving properties are not allowed to be used for short-term accommodation – defined as stays of less than 3-months. Coliving spaces such as Figment offer a URA-approved minimum 3-month rental period with month-to-month extensions thereafter.
According to the Council for Estate Agencies, to rent property in Singapore, you need to be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. Non-citizens may rent if they hold an employment or work permit like an S-pass, a student pass, dependent pass or long term social visit pass. That said, even with foreigners holding legal residence, the problem is that most Singapore landlords may not be too pleased with a month-to-month lease agreement and would typically require at least a 1 or 2 year contract. Figment provides a much-needed. flexible alternative for coliving space rentals with flexible lease terms and a 1-month notice period.
