The Club House inaugurates its first artist commission with pioneering new media artist, Urich Lau.
A two-part installation commemorates the age where technology and reality are phased, and where art mediates the experience. Investigating mechanical methodologies in spatial aesthetics and conceptual frameworks in visualisation, [mmWaves] features two site-specific installations as part of Urich Lau’s ongoing expositions with technology and audiovisual interfaces. The mechanical and electronic moving images produced with the utilisation of light, it is an inevitable part of an artist’s arsenal in artmaking.
The works, Luminal Waves and Moving Images in Millimetre Waves (mmWaves), take form as the video installation and audiovisual performance respectively, presented through the TV–screen as an art medium and art subject. It demonstrates the varied forms of calculated and incidental electronic visual elements. The distinctive glitches produced with mixed video signals from the televisions and screens play on the idea of presence/absence in a constant ‘ebb and flow’.
This unit is part of our Lor 24A Shophouse Series, where 7 architects were paired with 8 conservation shophouses. The historically-rich façades were preserved, as well as interior features like timber floorboards, joists, and peepholes. Each one of our shophouses exudes a different personality and presents a distinct experience.

Where flavour meets culture.
Geylang is a tranquil neighborhood filled with vibrant experiences and thought-provoking excursions. Step outside your shophouse for a hearty bowl of Teochew porridge or a greasy Roti John. Walk into the Buddhist library to meditate or sign up for a flamenco dance class. Stroll along the canal towards the East Coast or take a 10-minute bus ride to Kallang Riverside Park where you can catch canoeists and dragon boat teams mid-practice.
